Betadine, also known as povidone, is an antiseptic solution with the active ingredient of 10% povidone-iodine. It is used for treating small cuts, skin, and hand disinfection, and is available in the market in spray, cream, and solution forms. It has a brownish-red color.
When our bodies are unable to defend themselves in situations like injuries and cuts, they become susceptible to the growth of bacteria and microorganisms. In such cases, Betadine, thanks to its povidone-iodine content, not only prevents the growth of microorganisms in cuts but also does not allow them to survive. It does not irritate the skin or mucous membranes. After application, it allows for bandaging without sticking to the bandage. It can be easily removed from the skin and natural fabrics as it dissolves easily in water. For these reasons, it is one of the most commonly used disinfectant products.
